Questionable Calls (or No-calls) in Game 6

I helped my mother-in-law move for 15 hours last Thursday, so I didn't get around to watching game 4 until Friday. So, I'll pay careful attention today and list each and every mistake I see during tonight's game.

Did Pau get the opening tip before the toss reached its peak?

On Kobe's first shot, he traveled. He caught the ball with his left foot in the air, put it down, then moved his right foot back towards his body (11:41 left in 1st).

I'll continue with comments.

Rondo just carried the ball incredibly near half court after stealing it from Gasol to set up Ray Allen for for a 3 with 10:18 left in the 1st.

Kobe obviously traveled after saving the ball near half court with 10 minutes left in the first quarter. He couldn't be bothered to put the ball on the floor until his 3rd step!

Kendrick Perkins had a nice moving screen on the possession after Kobe nailed a 3 to make it 7-5. Perkins should be able to set some nice screens without moving.

Lamar Odom is definitely pushing the limits of the carrying rule when he handles in the open court.

On a crazy 3-point shot by Kobe after a steal, the refs obviously missed a foul. Rondo grabbed him.

KG slid his pivot foot on his move in the key with just over 6.5 minutes left. That's the same type of play he was whistled for last game.

On Kobe's 3 with 5.5 left in the 1st, he caught the ball and established his left foot as his pivot foot. He pump faked Allen into the air, then took one dribble. But, his left foot slid back as his right foot moved forward before he put the ball on the floor. That's the same type of thing KG does.

KG also moved a bit on his screen on the next possession.

Why does Bill Belichick where a dress shirt to an NBA game when he always wheres the cutoff hoodie on the sideline?

The refs missed Odom hitting Allen in the face on a baseline drive with under 5 left in the first. The resulting power play resulted in a Perkins foul on Odom and Odom FT's.

Rondo and Fisher join Odom in the consistent carrying club. Further minor violations of this sort will be ignored by me ... and the refs.

There appeared to be excessive contact on KG's jumper over Kobe as well.

With 3:05 left, Pau Gasol appeared to be dancing with James Posey trying to set a screen. Maybe Gasol can be on Dancing with the Stars next season?

Luke Walton switched his pivot feet with just over two and a half left in the first.

Jordan Farmar did the same thing with 1:32 left in the first.

Posey did it with 1:01 left in the first. People harp on Shaq's lack of skills because he doesn't shoot FT's well. Can these guards and wing players not play off their non-dominant pivot foot?

Pierce did it with 47 seconds left. That's an all-star SF doing it. He's not gaining an advantage from it, but it's still a violation. Do the players just not worry about it because it isn't called or are they just lacking that basketball coordination?

That concludes the first quarter.

Pau Gasol has very good post footwork and doesn't travel.

Leon Powe set an illegal screen on the C's first possession of the second quarter. I'll refrain from posting about many more of those.

Kobe slid his pivot foot trying to get a shot up after Posey caused him to pick up his dribble.

Does Vujacic really think he's a good enough shooter that he should shoot it almost every time he gets it?

Kobe traveled getting his jumper up with just over 8.5 left. He established his right foot as his pivot foot on the catch, planted his left foot, then slid his right foot to get his rhythm for the shot.

Of course, Powe traveled after he got the rebound.

I'm a little surprised Pierce was able to do Tim Duncan's move to get a foul on Derek Fisher and get a couple FT's. I'm not a big fan of that play by the offensive player, but it's not a bad call by the official.

I just got done praising Gasol ... then he travels by taking an extra step on his hook shot over "Big Baby" Davis with just under 8 minutes left in the first half. It was close to not being a travel though.

Davis does a good job of setting good, legal screens (at least thus far this game).

I'm excited to see a jump ball with KG. I don't understand why he doesn't jump center. It seems like he would be good at that sort of thing.

Fisher just fouled Eddie House when House was trying to set a screen. With the Celtics in the bonus, that's not a good play.

Vlad Radmanovich going through Pierce to try to get a steal outside the 3-point line just isn't smart.

Odom hand-fighting with Garnett and impeding his progress down the floor with 3:20 left in the 2nd quarter is just ridiculous ... and the refs didn't call anything!

I'm rooting for Boston, so I'm glad to see Luke Walton shooting the ball. But, I also have to wonder, why is Luke Walton shooting the basketball? Oh, so he can stay in the game to play D and foul Pierce off the ball.

Luke Walton just traveled again with 1:09 left in the half. He caught the ball, stepped with his left foot, then moved his right foot. That's just sloppy basketball.

That concludes the first half.

The Lakers have 19 FTA's and 12 fouls to 14 and 13 for Boston. Does that mean the refs have been favoring the Lakers today?

Mike Breen just said "The Celtics had more steals in the first half than the Lakers had field goals ... And the Lakers had more turnovers than they had field goals in the first half." Just leave off the second part. Steals by the Celtics are turnovers by the Lakers. Thus, the first part of the statement implies the second part, although the converse is not true because there are more ways to turn the ball over than to just have the other team steal it from you.

I think Pierce traveled on his move with 11:15 left in the 3rd quarter, although I'm not sure about the specifics of the rule governing that play in the NBA.

Ray Allen did a good job getting his feet in position on his 3 to make it 63-36.

The foul on Kendrick Perkins with 9:52 left in the 3rd was marginal. It looks like Fisher is causing the contact and Perkins is vertical. He's allowed to jump. Perkins is now on the bench with 5 fouls.

At this point, I'm going to shut this down and enjoy the rest of the game, unless something peaks my interest enough to comment again.
